“Kinetic” is the momentous embodiment of New York City-based artists Meguru Yamaguchi and Yoon Hyup. A joint effort with new standalone works that pits Yoon’s vibrant line-and-dot paintings of cultural phenomena against Meguru’s three-dimensional brushstrokes using a technique in which the artist calls Cut & Paste. The creative cohorts have masterfully produced clashing yet complementing works of art that pay homage to the endless flowing movement of urban societies, ushering a new dialogue that questions the viewers’ notion of what it means to move.

Meguru Yamaguchi is a Brooklyn-based artist that was initially inspired by the works of the iconic post-impressionist artist, Vincent Van Gogh. His unconventional works are comprised of an painting accumulation of brushstrokes that pay homage to the Japanese Gutai movement of the 1950’s.
Yoon Hyup is a Brooklyn-based artist who is renowned for his vibrant line-and-dot paintings that draw inspiration from contemporary cityscapes, improvisational music such as jazz, hip hop culture and also skateboarding. He fuses theses elements to create unique, free-hand style works.
In light of Meguru and Yoon’s first joint show together, Kinfolk is proud to release a limited edition of 20 signed prints of the two artists. Prints will be available on Thursday at the reception and on our webstore.
