August 1st, 2014: Two Art Shows In One Day

September 18, 2014 | Felipe |

One of the first events Kinfolk ever held in Brooklyn was an art show. Late in the summer of 2011, just after acquiring the space that would go on to become Kinfolk 90, in a wild display of support, a handful of Kinfolk friends and family donated artwork we showed, and then sold, as a means of paying that month’s rent. The dozen or so shows that followed would take place under much more righteous (and much less desperate) circumstances, but we were as proud then as we are today to have been able to show them. Kinfolk has long had ties to a diverse, international community of artists so it was only a matter of time before we’d fill our spaces with the work of more than just one of them. This past August 1st marked a very special occasion for us as we were inundated with the art lovers for the opening of two separate shows at once. The Kinfolk Store hosted pottery work from Isaac Nichols including 10 pieces custom-made for the store as a part of his “Im Up Here” show ,while Kinfolk 94 showed the Tim Strazza-curated, Kinfolk Inaugural Group Summer Show, featuring likes of Amanda Wachob, Kenji Hirata, REVOK and more. We caught it all on tape so you can see what you missed if you didn’t make it out but sign up for the Kinfolk mailing list now so you don’t end up in this position again.
