Good Omens was originally marketed as a limited series, but thanks to its popularity it will be making a return for at least one more season. The series is based on the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, and it features plenty of incredible characters that viewers loved to see brought to life on screen.
With David Tennant and Michael Sheen set to return as Aziraphale and Crowley sometime in 2023, it’s now a question of how big this series could become. If its creators take advantage of the modern-day franchise model that makes use of other media, it could become a huge success.
Good Omens Season 2 Confirmed
Good Omens was originally released in 2019 on BBC Two as a six-episode limited series. It was later brought to Amazon Prime Video, which enabled it to reach a global audience. The show featured a star-studded cast with the likes of Daniel Mays, Nick Offerman, and Sian Brooke joining Sheen and Tennant. The latter two were lauded by The Guardian for their incredible on-screen chemistry, an acting partnership that viewers may not have known they needed but are now desperate to see more of.
The series was praised for more than just the performances of its leads, though. It has a 90 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is renowned for being a faithful adaptation of the original work. This was doubtlessly helped by Gaiman’s involvement with the production of the series.
When the second season of Good Omens is released, it will most likely receive better ratings than its predecessor initially thanks to the might of Amazon Prime. If it can live up to the first season, it would make sense for Amazon to keep the project going to build an even greater audience.
Expanding Into Other Media
The streaming era has entered a stage of intense competition between rival services, with Amazon competing with other big names like HBO Max and Netflix for supremacy. For it to get on top, it needs flagship shows that can compete with the giants of the industry. Good Omens has the potential to be one of those shows, if it branches out into other media to attract more viewers.
Shows like The Last of Us and Game of Thrones now have games inspired by them, and Good Omens could easily go the same way. Fantasy themes are particularly prevalent in the online casino industry, with Plant 7 Casino offering titles like Goblins: Gluttony of Gems and Fortunes of Olympus. The mobile gaming industry also provides an outlet for franchises to break into. For instance, Star Trek and The Walking Dead both have mobile offerings to reach more fans.
In 2021 it was confirmed that a second season of Good Omens would be coming, and its release date is confirmed for July 2023. Good Omens has a long way to go before it can compete with the world’s most famous series. Amazon should boost this franchise with related games and ensure a wider audience knows about it.
